As you may have already heard, Union R-XI voters voted to approve our no tax increase bond issue. 73% of voters were in favor, while 27% were opposed.

With the passing of #propwildcats, we have some amazing opportunities to enhance and strengthen the quality of education we provide our students.

On behalf of the district and all our students, I'd like to personally thank each of you for your support and assistance in helping to make #propwildcats a reality for our community. There is no doubt in my mind that this wouldn't have been possible without your help.

Though much has already been done to prepare for the possibility of #propwildcats passing, this is really just the beginning. In the coming months, many of you will be asked to be a part of more specific and detailed conversations around how we can maximize these funds for the greatest impact on our district.

In closing, thank you again for your help, and please know, the work you do day in and day out for our students doesn't go unnoticed.

It's a great day to be a Wildcat.

Dr. Steve Weinhold, Superintendent

Tomorrow, November 8th, the Middle school is happy to begin providing weekly grade reports for your middle school student every Wednesday through the email listed on your students Student Information System. Access to Parent Portal is still available for those of you who have signed up through the UMS office.

Remember, that because we are reporting grades at a short interval, occasionally some complete work may not have been entered yet at the time of our grade report. However, if grades do not show ongoing updates, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher with any questions.

Please take time, if you haven’t already done so, and confirm the primary parent/guardian email address on your student's account. We hope these grade updates help to keep our students on the right track to success. Tutoring is available at Union Middle School, Tuesday - Thursday, 3:00 - 3:45 or by contacting your student’s teachers directly.

Since the district has committed itself to providing more technology access to our students, we are equally committed to helping keep them safe and providing transparency while using district technology. As a result, the district is rolling out a new system called 'Securly Parent Portal' starting Wednesday, 10/11. Parents/guardians will start receiving a weekly email with detailed information about their child's online activity while using their chromebooks.  Parents of 7-12 graders also have the ability to monitor and personalize their child's internet experience when students are using their device outside of school.  Additional information such as the welcome letter, overview, and FAQ are attached below.  If you have additional questions about this system, please feel free to contact your child's school. In closing, we appreciate your patience as we implement this new system with the goal of keeping our kids safe.

Solar Eclipse Update:

With the assistance of county, city officials, local police and our transportation provider, the Union R-XI School District has continued to monitor the upcoming Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21.

Recently, MoDOT issued a statement to expect extreme congestion on many roadways in the area on this day and particularly in the afternoon once the Eclipse event concludes.

Local and county emergency service personnel have been very helpful, but since this is truly a "once-in-a lifetime event", they admit that due to the "unknown", it is impossible for them to know how quickly they will be able to respond to any request for aid should an emergency occur.

As a result, we agree with our local emergency management and transportation personnel regarding erring on the side of caution. Therefore, it has been decided by the Board of Education and District Administration to close all Union R-XI schools on Aug. 21.

We will still be teaching about the Solar Eclipse prior to the event and will be sending glasses home with each student on Friday, Aug. 18.

We understand that any decision we make will affect everyone differently, however, our top priority is and always will be student and staff safety.

Please enjoy the day and be safe. #unionrxi

Each year during the month of July the Franklin County Back to School Fair organization, in partnership with Jefferson/Franklin Community Action (JFCAC), hosts a school fair for the under resourced families in Franklin County. At the fair, kids receive much needed school supplies, clothing, haircuts, vision screening, dental screening, a meal and information from organizations regarding different programs available to their family, all FREE. Over 1300 children participated in the fair in 2016 which resulted in many smiling faces! We would like to be prepared for 1800 kids in 2017.

For more information about the event and a registration form, please see the attached letter and flyer below.
